Not since The Braxton Brothers hit the scene in the late 90s has a bass and sax sibling duo (who actually play ALL instruments her) made the immediate electrifying impact as Michael & Shawn Kingsberry, who drop their irresistibly poppin’ Smooth Jazz debut VELVET HORIZON in the wake of Shawn’s 2023 debut UNAPOLOGETICALLY SHAWN album. With their mother Ida’s guidance, their musical journey began in a high school R&B band and now culminates in a rhythmically tight but melodically and sonically adventurous, vibe-blending set, combining Smooth Jazz with touches of chill and LoFi. While Shawn’s the musical mastermind who likens himself to “Morpheus” in The Matrix, it’s Michael’s fanciful sax energy that brings the emotion home.
